Food is expensive in France. Plan on it! Budget for it, and then let the cost concerns go. Enjoy!
In France there are so many, many, many delicious things to try!

Many restaurants are closed on Mondays.
You are likely to need a reservation for weekend dinners.

Most days in Chartres we make it to either Migeon, La Picoterie and/or Le Serpente.
They're reasonably priced with delicious food--and oh so near to the cathedral.

Not To Be Missed

Migéon 02 37 21 52 91 (Breakfast and Lunch)

Migeon Restaurant Chartrs

33 rue des Changes 28000 Chartres
Closed on Mondays.

What a great place to eat breakfast or brunch! It's close to the cathedral, bright and the food is outstanding. The pastries, chocolate, and desserts are fabulous!

The petit déjeuner complet includes a patisserie (pain au chocolat, croissant, pain au pistache, pain au raisons, etc.), a demi-baguette with butter and jam, a fried egg, juice (ask for pressé (fresh squeezed--unless you want bottled juice), it's worth the extra cost), and a hot beverage (coffee, tea, hot chocolate) for E8,00.

"Le Brunch" is outrageously delicious--juice, hot beverage, scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, toast, salad, ham, potatoes and desert (of course with bread on the side). Having a choice of any desert in the display case is always the highlight! If you get the brunch you won't be hungry until dinner time!

They have "take out" too--their sandwiches can't be beat!

A wonderful place to enjoy a crèpe or gallette. (Our favorites crèpes are the popeye and the verte.) The servers are very friendly (many enjoy speaking English) and the food is really tasty. Reasonably priced. Very near to the cathedral. You will need a reservation on weekend nights.

I love stopping by in the morning before the cathedral opens for a pain au chocolat (croissant with chocolate in the center) and café au lait. They have a great lunch menu that includes salads, omlettes, and wonderful pastries! Nice room upstairs for visiting or writing in the afternoons. In 2006 we discovered that our wireless internet worked here--a bonus!

A nice place to sit outside in the late Spring, Summer or early Fall. The food is reasonably priced. They have a wonderful selection of desserts that are not too big and not too expensive. (I don't recommend their bathrooms. The women's toilet does not have a seat.)

Hearty french meals. Just a short walk from the cathedral. Good french food. We like the low-key yet warm atmosphere. The owners are very hospitable. Monsieur Jouffrieau dresses up on Sundays as Henri IV to promote their daily special, Le Pol au Pot (chicken with vegetables and broth--delicious!).He also rents rooms above the restaurant.
