Bricks and Grass 50.6' Chartres Style Labyrinth

It all started with a desire to have a labyrinth close enough to pray daily.

Front Yard

As we looked for a new home, our realtor knew the yard had to have space for a labyrinth!
This spot fit the bill, although it was hard to imagine what a labyrinth would be like here.

Robert Ferré, from Labyrinth Enterprises,came to help us lay it out.

All we knew was this:
1. We wanted it to be a Chartres-style 11 circuit/12 wall labyrinth, and
2. It would be located in the front yard which was about 60 feet wide.
Once Robert came, we spent time getting a sense of the space.

The night before we bought the house,
I had a dream in which angels were walking a labyrinth in the front yard.
I couldn't see the pattern on the ground, but with my "dream eyes" it was obvious.

We determined the center based on where the angels had been walking.

Then Robert knotted a rope at measured intervals.
He used it to make the circles of the labyrinth.

Where should we place the opening?
In Chartres Cathedral, you enter the labyrinth in the west
and walk towards the east.
Robert oriented the Deep Haven Labyrinth "just like Chartres."

Then he started spray painting the paths.

By mid-afternoon there was a labyrinth in the front yard.
Robert said he felt the effects of spray painting the labyrinth for weeks-especially in his painting finger!

Within two weeks, the labyrinth was ready for walking!
