When picking up the labyrinth at Deep Haven:

For directions, click here.

Get the green garbage can with the labyrinth as well as the broom (used only on the labyrinth so there is no floor dirt transfered to the canvas) with dustpan. Fill out and sign the rental form and leave check.

Taking the garbage can out of your vehicle:

Set down the side without the wheels first. That way the wheels don't break off!

Putting the labyrinth out:

1. Clean the floor (not with the labyrinth broom as this will bring dirt on to it later) so that the back of the labyrinth doesn't get dirty.
2. At least two people gently put the garbage can on its side.
3. Take the labyrinth out and place the rolled up labyrinth where you want the entrance to be. (When possible I like it to face east so that people walk in to the labyrinth moving east. This is the way the Chartres labyrinth is set up.)
4. Unroll it until it is fully extended.
5. Unfold it, one side at a time. Place as many people as you have all along the side you are working with and unfold it together at the same time.
6. Smooth it out.
7. Sweep it if there is need. (Jill will provide a special broom that is only used on the labyrinth).
8. Take a minute to notice how beautiful the labyrinth is and to pray for the labyrinth event

Putting the labyrinth away:

1. Sweep the labyrinth off with the broom dedicated to labyrinth care.
2. Fold one side over until it is about 3 inches from the center of the labyrinth.
3. Fold the other side over until it about 3 inches from the center. (Hint: the labyrinth is now 1/2 the size it was when laid out before.)
4. Sweep newly exposed bottom of the labyrinth as necessary.
5. Fold each side in half again so that there is still about 16 inches of single-layerfabric at the centerline. (The labyrinth is now about 1/4 its original size.)
6. Smooth out and stretch each folded piece as needed. Sweep as necessary.
7. Fold each side in half again.
8. Smooth out and stretch each folded piece as needed.
9. Fold either side over the centerline so that you now have 1 long piece.
10. Go to the end that is opposite from the entrance and fold it over 18 inches.
11. Now fold the labyrinth over and over and over (18 inches, 20 inches, 24 inches, etc.) as you keep getting closer to the entrance side. (Do not roll it, fold it.)
12. Tip the green container on its side.
13. Slide the folded labyrinth into the box and gently lift the container to an upright position.
14. Put the Kleenex box into the green container.
15. Close the top on.The labyrinth should fit in the container easily. If it doesn't take it out and refold it.

Returning the Labyrinth:

Remember when you take the container out of your car to put the side WITHOUT the wheels on the ground first.

At the agreed upon time return to:
