Constructing a 3 Circuit/4 Wall Grass Path and Brick Walls Labyrinth:
The Story of the Friends and Family Labyrinth

It all began one day while I was praying while sitting on a bench near the garden.

It was as if God showed me a small 3 circuit labyrinth at my feet.

I wondered if I could use the old bricks from a walkway we had torn up.

So I prayed some more...

Friends and Family Labyrinth

This picture was taken the morning we constructed the labyrinth.

As usual, I had been sitting on the bench praying about the birth of the labyrinth.

Not being too good with diagrams, I thought I would just lay the bricks out on the grass.

I started with the seed pattern for a 3 circuit, 4 wall labyrinth: a cross and four brick "dots."

Then I started connecting the bricks.

I just kept adding bricks as the labyrinth pattern grew on top of the lawn.

The pile of bricks kept getting smaller and the labyrinth larger.

It looked so beautiful on top of the grass, I was tempted to leave it that way!

But I knew it would be easier to maintain the grass if we could just mow over the bricks,
so we started digging them in the ground.

We used our ice choppers (a readily available tool in Minnesota) to dig out the trenches
for the bricks. We would just move a section of bricks aside, "chop" and remove the sod (notice the handy wheelbarrow), and then lay the bricks into the hole we had created.

We left them a little above the ground,
knowing that over time they would sink into the lawn.

We decided to put four bricks on an angle surrounding the central cross.

Within two hours the labyrinth was laid out and installed.

You too could do this!!! I hope you do!!

We named it the Friends and Family Labyrinth
because it is where we go to pray
for the many requests that we recieve from our friends and family.
