Biography

The Rev. Jill Kimberly Hartwell Geoffrion, Ph.D., loves to pray! She has been leading small and large group prayer experiences for over thirty five years. Her dissertation focused on a contemporary understanding of the Lord's Prayer. Once she experienced the labyrinth, Jill accepted God's call to pray it regularly and share with others what she learned.

While "researching" the labyrinth in France, Jill was deeply moved by the beauty and call of Chartres Cathedral. She has since made thirty-four pilgrimages to the cathedral, some which have lasted as long as eight weeks. From a personal experience of the potential of this magnificent setting to connect human longing and God's transforming presence, now Jill shares with others the possibilities of praying here. Her writings, photographs and retreat leadership invite others to move as deeply as possible into the love of God as it can be experienced in Chartres.

Jill and her husband Tim founded the DeepHaven Labyrinths and Retreat Center in 1999. She has helped develop its outreach to spiritual leaders and those interested in deepening their experience of God through prayer.

Jill now finds herself around the globe leading, encouraging, and inspiring others to connect with God in ever deepening ways. Faith, Hope and Love Global Ministries was formed to support this work in a formal way.

Chartres Cathedral Labyrinth from Triforium

Sharing the beauty and potential of the Chartres Cathedral labyrinth is one of the current foci of Jill's research, writing and presenting. Through powerpoint presentations which include many photographs of the Chartres labyrinth in its original cathedral context, Jill invites other to explore the possibilities of prayer. Offerings include The Unique Features of the Chartres Cathedral Labyrinth, The Portals of Chartres Cathedral and its Labyrinth, and Visions from the Stained Glass Surrounding the Labyrinth. Custom creation of sacred labyrinth rituals and events is one of the great joys of Jill's life. As a spiritual mentor, Jill encourages individuals and group to explore labyrinths as tools of spiritual transformation.

Rwandan Labyrinth Construction Jill Geoffrion

Jill designs, creates and installs temporary and permanent labyrinths around the globe through Faith, Hope and Love Global Ministries. Her colored labyrinth mandalas are used for visual meditation. The finger labyrinths she makes from every imaginable material are designed for more visceral prayer. Her labyrinths photo cards display the beauty of labyrinths she has created and visited. Jill enjoys designing and creating "walkable art," portable labyrinth canvases of various sizes and designs. Before moving from the Deep Haven Retreat Center, Jill installed nine labyrinths: The Deep Haven Labyrinth, (51 foot, 11 circuit brick and grass Chartres-style), The Friends and Family Labyrinth (3 circuit brick and grass),The Secret Garden Labyrinth, (3 circuit stones, shells, dirt, and sculpture), and the Wellness Prayer Labyrinth, (4 circuit stone and mulch), The Labyrinth of Life (Dancing Lady© Lake Michigan rocks on mulch), The Companion Labyrinth (Double Spiral, Mexican river rocks on mulch),The Neighborhood Blessing Labyrinth (3 circuit flower gardens and grass), The Welcome Labyrinth (4 circuit rope and mulch), and the Dragonfly Emergence Labyrinth (double labyrinth, contemporary pattern, lake rocks in grass).
